Ozeki Kotomitsuki will be suspended and miss next month's Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament in his native Aichi Prefecture after admitting he bet on baseball games.

The Japan Sumo Association on Tuesday accepted an offer by his stable master, Sadogatake, for the suspension in a board meeting to discuss gambling problems that have hit the national sport. The length of the suspension was not set.

Kotomitsuki also has admitted to police that he was involved in gambling on baseball games, the Metropolitan Police Department said Tuesday.
