Kyushu Electric Power Co. has signed contracts to buy liquefied natural gas from the Chevron Corp.-led Wheatstone and Gorgon ventures in Australia.
The utility signed an agreement to buy a 1.37 percent stake in the Wheatstone project, Kyushu said Tuesday.
The company will take 684,000 tons annually from Wheatstone under a 20-year purchase deal starting sometime between 2016 and 2018. Kyushu will import 300,000 tons a year from the Gorgon project under a 20-year pact starting 2015.
