Vice Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Tuesday the government hasn't decided whether to consider another supplementary budget, days after Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama unveiled his 2010 fiscal plan.
The ¥1 trillion allocated in the budget for the fiscal year that begins April 1 as a "reserve fund" could be used if the economy deteriorates, Noda said in an interview on TBS TV.
Hatoyama's Cabinet already released a stimulus package Dec. 8 for the current fiscal year to sustain recovery from Japan's deepest postwar recession. While analysts say the economy is unlikely to fall back into recession because of growth in demand overseas, concerns are mounting that the expansion may stall as emergency measures fade.
The budget for fiscal 2010 was compiled Friday and has yet to win Diet approval. The Diet is scheduled to debate the budget next month.
