Democratic Party of Japan President Yukio Hatoyama will tap top aide Hirofumi Hirano as his incoming government's chief Cabinet secretary, DPJ sources said Friday.

Hirano, 60, a fourth-term House of Representatives member, has served key party posts, including deputy secretary general and deputy Diet affairs chief.

Hirano's experience in maneuvering Diet affairs was a major factor in being picked as the government's top spokesman, the sources said.
