Shinsei Bank Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Masamoto Yashiro said Monday the lender may report a full-year loss as he writes down assets to "clean up" after predecessor Thierry Porte.

"I wouldn't be surprised" to report a loss for the 12 months through March, Yashiro, who took the helm at Shinsei last month, said in an interview. "I'm trying to clean up all these messes this year."

Porte resigned Nov. 12 to take responsibility for the bank's ¥19.3 billion first-half loss. Yashiro, 79, who led Shinsei from 2000 to 2004, has criticized the previous management for taking too much risk.
