Shortly after announcing the high-profile economic stimulus package worth ¥27 trillion Thursday, Prime Minister Taro Aso rushed off to attend actress Shoko Aida's wedding reception that night.

The reception for Aida, 38, a former member of singing duo Wink, and her groom, Hiromitsu Aizawa, 37, was held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo in the Shiba Koen district of Minato Ward, from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m.

He also stopped at a bar in Tokyo before heading home at around 11 p.m. — a habit criticized recently by the media.

Aso had finished the news conference to announce the economic stimulus package at his official residence in Nagata-cho, Chiyoda Ward, at 6:25 p.m.

Aizawa, a doctor, is the son of Hideyuki Aizawa, a former Lower House member with the Liberal Democratic Party, and actress Yoko Tsukasa.

Sachiko Suzuki, Aida's partner in Wink, music producer Tsunku, who managed J-pop group Morning Musume, and others in the entertainment industry also attended the reception, according to Aida's agency, Up-Front Agency Co.
