A man was seriously injured Friday afternoon after a continuous stream of wet concrete splattered him from eight stories above at a building under construction in Minato Ward, Tokyo, police said.
The man, 39, sustained heavy injuries to his legs, arms and other parts of his body but was not in a life-threatening condition, fire officials said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The building in question is being built on the same site as Shibaura Institute of Technology.
Witnesses said they were alerted to the freak accident by a loud noise.
"I saw a man being covered by wet concrete for around 10 minutes," local resident Eiji Ito, 71, said.
"I was appalled."
The neighborhood was cordoned off for several hours as a precaution while neighbors and television crews flocked to the scene.
