The Japan Garioa/Fulbright Alumni Association has collected more than ¥20 million from corporate and individual donors for a scholarship fund for a Japan-U.S. student exchange program, according to the organizers.

The fundraising campaign was launched in 2006, marking the centennial of the birth of the late U.S. Sen. James William Fulbright, who founded the scholarship program for Japanese and U.S. students.

By the March 31 deadline, the alumni association had collected ¥20.4 million, with ¥17.4 million coming from 57 corporate donors and ¥3.1 million from 1,173 individuals.

Thirteen U.S. and nine Japanese students received scholarships in fiscal 2006 and 2007.
