The power of love seemed to prevail over the chilly, windy weather as dozens of men shouted out to express their love for their special ones Thursday evening at Hibiya Park in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward.
The event "Shout Your Love in the middle of Hibiya Park — the men's project of bringing back flowers to your home" was held to mark the third anniversary of "The Beloved Wives Day," created by the group Japan Aisaika Organization (Men who Love Their Wives) because Jan. 31 can be read "aisai" (beloved wives) in a Japanese-English mix.
Hibiya-Kadan Floral Co. hosted this event for men to shout their love to their wives or girlfriends.
The participants included newlyweds and long-married husbands, as well as at least one single man who shouted his appeal to a woman he wanted to date.
The first 200 participants received tulips and certificates as "devoted husbands."
Shinichi Nobuhira from Chiba Prefecture, the first participant to shout, came with his wife of 31 years.
"It felt great," he said, noting the opportunity to shout feelings of love in front of his wife through a microphone does not come very often.
