Hino Motors Ltd. said Tuesday it has founded a joint company with Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. to produce commercial vehicles in China.

The establishment of Guangqi Hino Motors Co. in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is based on a reorganization of the two automakers' affiliates, Shenyang Shenfei Hino Automobile Manufacturing Co. and Guangzhou Yangcheng Automobile Co., in line with the Chinese government's auto industry development policy, said Hino, a leading truck maker belonging to Toyota Motor Corp.

While Guangqi Hino will produce Yangcheng Automobile's existing products at its current factory, it is building a new plant in Guangzhou that will begin production in mid-2009.

Guangqi Hino will contribute to the development of the Chinese auto industry by providing advanced exhaust-reduction and fuel-efficiency technologies and high-quality products, Hino said.
