Toyota Motor Corp. released the new Vanguard sport utility vehicle Thursday to help stem a drop in domestic sales.
The Vanguard costs between ¥2.65 million and ¥3.35 million, the company said. A successor to the Kluger, it's powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine or 3.5-liter V-6 engine.
Toyota this year surpassed General Motors Corp. in first-half sales, but at home it has suffered a 9.6 percent drop to 961,262 units.
Toyota introduced eight new or redesigned models last year, while this year it has already released the Noah and Voxy minivans and Allion and Premio sedans.
The Vanguard competes with Honda Motor Co.'s Crossroad and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s Outlander models.
