Doutor Coffee Co. shareholders voted in favor of the company's proposed integration with Nippon Restaurant System Inc. on Thursday, undeterred by opposition from investment fund Harbinger Capital Partners, the largest outside shareholder in Doutor.
At Doutor's annual shareholders' meeting in Tokyo, attended by a record 838 investors, shareholders also backed the coffee shop chain's proposal for a takeover defense plan.
Doutor announced in late April that the company and NRS, which operates spaghetti and other restaurant chains, will integrate their operations in October under a holding company.
