Khalili stressed that the country has made improvements since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001, but called for the international community to cooperate in preventing terrorists from being supported from outside and to curb the narcotics trade that helps fund terrorist activities.

Defense Minister Fumio Kyuma told reporters in May that the government will study enacting a law to allow an SDF dispatch to Afghanistan to provide support to facilitate reconstruction.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki, however, swiftly denied any such intention.
