Profit at Sharp Corp. jumped 15 percent in the business year to March 31 on strong sales of flat-panel televisions, mobile phones and refrigerators, the company said Wednesday.
Net income surged to 101.7 billion yen in the year, while sales climbed 12 percent to 3.13 trillion yen, Sharp said.
Sharp's rising fortunes come as many Japanese electronics makers struggle to compete against falling prices and increased competition from Asian rivals, including South Korea's Samsung.
On Tuesday, Osaka-based Sharp forecast profit growth to slow to 3.2 percent to in the current year ending next March, on a 8.7 percent increase in sales.
Earnings in the just-ended year were lifted by hot-selling liquid crystal display televisions, which saw sales rocket by 49 percent, and mobile phones, which jumped 29 percent. Refrigerators also posted strong sales gains, of 17 percent, Sharp said.
