Major automakers and electronics companies agreed Wednesday to raise base wages and bonuses for their employees for the second consecutive year as they enjoy improved earnings amid continued economic growth.
Most of the electronics firms will give bigger pay raises than the previous year, whereas the result was mixed among automakers.
However, overall the base pay raises were lower than the amounts demanded by the unions as employers continue to argue that workers should be rewarded with one-time bonuses when earnings are positive.
