The custom of serving tea is getting futuristic in University of Tokyo research about how robots and other technology can support and blend with human life.
In a demonstration this week, a humanoid with camera eyes made by machinery maker Kawada Industries Inc. poured tea from a bottle into a cup.
Then another robot on wheels delivered the cup to an experimental room with sensors embedded in the floor and sofa and monitoring cameras on the ceiling, to simulate living with robot technology.
