Nissan Motor Co. held a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday in Yokohama for its new head office building scheduled to be completed in 2009.
The automaker said it is planning to relocate its headquarters from Tokyo's Ginza district in October 2009 at the latest. Nissan will invest some 42 billion yen in the project, including the relocation expenses.
The new facility, which will accommodate more than 2,500 employees, will stand 99 meters tall with 22 floors above ground and two basement floors. Total floor space will be 80,000 sq. meters.
