Boeing Co., the world's largest maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, has tapped Nicole Piasecki, vice president of business strategy and marketing at its commercial airplanes unit, as new president of Boeing Japan.
Piasecki, 44, who will also assume the vice presidency of Boeing International, will replace Robert "Skipp" Orr, who is retiring after leading the plane maker's wide-ranging business activities in Japan for five years, the Chicago-based company said in a statement Tuesday.
Her appointment will take effect in March.
Based in Tokyo, Piasecki will be responsible for developing and strengthening Boeing's presence and partnerships in Japan, the company said.
"Japan is home to very important Boeing customers, and our partnership with the Japanese aerospace companies is a model for the industry," Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in the statement.
Japanese carriers, including Japan Airlines Corp. and All Nippon Airways Co., account for a combined 12 percent of the world's 747s made for delivery as of the end of October, said Naoko Masuda, spokeswoman of Boeing Japan. Japanese carriers fly 165 of the jumbo jets, Masuda said.
Piasecki, who joined Boeing in 1991 as a customer engineer in the 777 Division, is currently with Boeing Commercial Airplanes, where she's been vice president of business strategy and marketing.
