Financier Eitaro Itoyama said Wednesday he has acquired a 5.09 percent equity stake in TV Tokyo Corp., becoming its second-largest shareholder after Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc.
According to a report submitted to the Kanto Finance Bureau and made available to the media, Itoyama, a former member of the Lower House, has acquired 1.05 million shares in the broadcaster. Nihon Keizai held a 33.3 percent stake as of March.
The financier, who is also a major shareholder in Japan Airlines Corp., described the TV Tokyo equity acquisition as simply an investment.
Itoyama runs a golf course management company that sponsors a TV Tokyo program. He is expected to ask the TV station to improve its attitude toward sponsors.
