Prince Hisahito made his first public appearance Friday afternoon as he and his mother, Princess Kiko, left the hospital to go home.
The new prince, the first heir born to the Imperial family in 40 years, left Aiiku Hospital in Minato Ward, Tokyo, with his mother and father, Prince Akishino, for his home at the Akasaka Estate.
Princess Kiko, 40, carrying the newborn in a white blanket, smiled as she walked out of the hospital and got into a car with Prince Akishino, Emperor Akihito's second son.
