Police said Thursday they have arrested a 31-year-old woman on suspicion of seriously wounding a saleswoman at a Tokyo department store earlier this month by poking her in the eye with an umbrella.
The suspect, who resides in Tokyo, has been saying incomprehensible things to police, police officials said.
Police had been searching for the female customer, who fled after attacking the 55-year-old saleswoman at Keio Department Store's Shinjuku outlet on Aug. 13.
According to an investigation, the customer visited the store's health equipment and food section that day and tested an oxygen inhaler. She left the section but returned about 20 minutes later, complained of feeling ill and asked to see the product's brochure.
When the saleswoman started to respond, the customer suddenly poked her right eye with the umbrella, rupturing her eyeball.
