NEC Corp. said Thursday it climbed back into the black in the April-June first quarter of the current fiscal year due to increased sales and cost reductions.
In its consolidated earnings report for the period compiled in accordance with U.S. accounting criteria, NEC booked a net profit of 11.46 billion yen and a pretax profit of 12.93 billion yen, compared with the respective year-before losses of 5.32 billion yen and 15.79 billion yen.
Sales grew 2.6 percent over a year earlier to 1.02 trillion yen on strong sales of network systems to telecommunications service operators, equipment for domestic terrestrial digital broadcasting services and semiconductors, which more than offset slowed sales of mobile phone terminals, the high-technology powerhouse said.
