Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Monday it will supply nuclear reactor replacement components to Texas-based STP Nuclear Operating Co. and Southern California Edison Corp.

Under the two deals, Mitsubishi Heavy will supply two replacement reactor vessel closure heads each to the U.S. companies. Industry sources estimate the value of the deals at 5 billion yen to 6 billion yen.

The reactor vessel closure head is a key component in pressurized-water reactors.

The deal with STP Nuclear has been contracted out by Westinghouse Electric Co., and the other one is being carried out directly by Mitsubishi Heavy.

Delivery will start in 2009 and last until 2012, with one unit shipped every year, Mitsubishi Heavy said.
