Environment Minister Yuriko Koike, suffering acute pneumonia, will remain hospitalized at least through this week, a ministry official said Monday.
"Her medical condition is steadily improving toward convalescence, but just to be on the safe side she decided to remain hospitalized for treatment this week," said Shigeru Sumitani, administrative vice minister.
Sumitani said he is unable to say when she will be discharged, given that she's been running a fever of around 37 on and off.
Koike was admitted to a Tokyo hospital after developing a high fever at home late March 29.
