Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) and West Japan Railway Co. are considering accepting mobility scooters for disabled people on new bullet train cars, sources said Sunday.
The two railroads are enlarging compartments and restrooms so they will be able to handle such scooters, the sources said.
JR companies do not currently allow the scooters on bullet or express trains because of their wide turning radius and heavy weight. The new train cars are to be brought into service next spring.
