Itochu Corp., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and Kinki Sharyo Co. said Tuesday they have received an order to build 34 railway cars for a Hong Kong railway.
The three firms said Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp. will pay them 8 billion yen for the carriages, which will be delivered starting in September 2007.
The cars are expected to be used on the new Kowloon Southern Link, which will be opened in 2009, and the existing West Line in Hong Kong.
The new 4-km line will connect East Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the East Line and Nam Cheong Station on the West Line, according to Itochu.
The three firms already have built 322 railway vehicles for the Hong Kong company.
