A consultant for a real estate company was fatally stabbed Sunday night on a street in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and police are investigating possible underworld links.

The victim, Kazuoki Nozaki, 58, was in charge of evicting people illegally occupying a building in Shibuya Ward, where the headquarters of the real estate company used to be located, police officials said.

Police said trouble with gangsters had been reported at the building and they suspect mobsters were involved in Nozaki's death.

Nozaki consulted the National Police Agency about the gangsters last summer, according to police.

An employee of a nearby restaurant found Nozaki on Aoyama Dori near the Omotesando subway station and notified police around 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

Nozaki, from Chiyoda Ward, was stabbed in the back and side. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Nozaki was seen being stabbed as he was about to return to his car, police officials said. The man who attacked Nozaki got into the passenger side of a car that stopped in front of the victim's vehicle and fled the scene, they said.

Nozaki was on his way to pick up his son from a prep school when he was attacked, the officials said.
