The ruling coalition is considering a nonbinding provision in a constitutional referendum bill calling on the media to be politically neutral when forecasting vote results, lawmakers said Thursday.
The Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito are also studying restrictions to TV and radio advertisements on the referendum before the vote, the lawmakers said.
The two parties envisage the media provision would be similar to one in the Broadcast Law that generally states broadcasters should be politically impartial.
