Japan has offered to cooperate in a recently announced U.S. program to expand nuclear power in the United States and other countries, while ensuring the safety of fuel and waste, sources said Wednesday.
Experts from the two countries will work out details of the program, called the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, in the near future, the sources said.
Japanese government officials said U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Clay Sell visited Japan on Jan. 20 to brief officials from the Foreign Ministry, the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Cabinet Office.
