A Tokyo restaurant owner has filed a criminal complaint stating that Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Kazuyuki Nakane assaulted her in December, police said Saturday.

According to the police and other sources, the 44-year-old woman says Nakane, 36, assaulted her on the night of Dec. 15 at the restaurant in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district after a quarrel.

Nakane's office declined to comment.

The police said the matter is under scrutiny, adding that the owner and Nakane's lawyer disagree over what happened.

Nakane was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in the September general election.
