The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday urged Japanese visiting Turin, Italy, during the Feb. 10-26 Winter Olympics to be careful, avoid crowded places and take sufficient safety precautions.
The ministry said it has no concrete information of a terrorist threat but could not rule out an unexpected occurrence, noting Italy has been identified by a militant group linked to al-Qaida as a potential target.
The ministry said the consulate in Milan will set up an office in Turin to provide assistance to Japanese nationals who will be traveling and staying there during the games.
The office will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Feb. 7 to 26, the ministry said.
