Police arrested two men Tuesday in connection with the discovery of hidden miniature cameras installed at automated teller machines in the greater Tokyo area earlier this year.
Police said the two are among five for whom they have obtained arrest warrants. They suspect the cameras were part of an effort to steal personal identification numbers for use in forged bank cards.
After analyzing ATM surveillance camera footage, police have identified more than 12 suspects, including six already under arrest.
The six, including Kazunari Ishiwatari, 37, are believed to have hidden cameras at ATM outlets of UFJ Bank -- now called Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ -- in Tokyo and Chiba and Saitama prefectures.
Police said they learned about the ring via the mobile phone Web site Yamino Shokuan (Black Market Job Placement Center).
Late last month, 14 fake UFJ cash cards were found to have been used at three ATMs in Tokyo. Some of them were made after the forgers secretly filmed the depositors' cards at the ATMs, but no money was withdrawn.
