The government will transfer the "Earth Vision" room that was exhibited at its pavilion during the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi Prefecture to the National Science Museum in Tokyo later this year.
The room featured the world's first 360-degree screen, measuring 12.8 meters in diameter, that showed virtual reality images of Earth.
A total of 3 million people, including foreign dignitaries such as French President Jacques Chirac, visited the chamber during the 185-day event that closed Sept. 25.
The chamber will be moved to the first-basement level of the museum's main building in the Ueno district of Taito Ward, which has been undergoing renovation work.
The room is expected to newly open in the fall, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which operated the pavilion.
