A biochemistry engineering professor at the University of Tokyo involved in an alleged scientific paper fabrication said Monday that it was his assistant who may have faked data for the experiment.
The 37-year-old unnamed assistant, however, denied the allegation in a separate interview, claiming he had not fabricated the data from human enzyme experiments and the professor is trying to lay the blame on him.
"There is a possibility that the assistant fabricated the data and I cannot defend him any more," professor Kazunari Taira, 53, said.
