An employee of Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc. was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having had sex with a 15-year-old junior high school girl after paying her 50,000 yen a year ago, police said.
Taisei Kato, 40, a section chief at the newspaper's branch in Nagoya, allegedly had sex with the girl after paying her the money at a Tokyo hotel on the evening of Jan. 15, 2005, even though he knew she was under 18, police officials said.
Police also alleged that Kato, who worked at the company's Tokyo headquarters at the time of the incident, filmed the sexual encounter with the girl in the hotel room for about five hours using several still and video cameras he had set up.
The president's office of the company said in a statement: "It is very regrettable that an employee has been arrested. We will deal with the incident properly when we have learned all the details."
