Heavy snow fell in regions along the Sea of Japan coast and some other parts of the country Sunday as the coldest air mass this season blanketed the archipelago, the Meteorological Agency said.

A low pressure system developing southeast of Hokkaido caused strong winds in coastal areas of the affected regions and rough conditions at sea, the agency said.

Police said at least one man died in Fukui Prefecture, after falling from a roof while removing snow. Another man died in Kagawa Prefecture when his car crashed after skidding on an icy road.
