Marubeni Corp. said Friday it has reached an agreement to buy an 80 percent interest in Berlinwasser International AG, a German water services company, from its shareholder Berlinwasser Holdings AG for some 6 billion yen.
Besides offering water services in its home country, Berlinwasser is involved in sewage treatment projects in two cities in China's Jiangxi and Anhui provinces and is handling other similar contracts in Budapest and elsewhere.
The major trading house will use the deal as a springboard for expanding its own overseas water treatment operations.
