Hitachi Ltd. said Thursday its current executive vice president, Kazuo Furukawa, will become the president of the leading electronics maker April 1.
The company said it will simultaneously promote current President and CEO Etsuhiko Shoyama to the post of chairman.
Furukawa, 59, has worked mainly in information and telecommunications and now heads a division operating in those areas.
A graduate of the University of Tokyo, Furukawa joined Hitachi in 1971, becoming vice president last April.
Shoyama, 69, has been Hitachi's president since 1999.
