"Tales from Earthsea," an animated film to be directed by the oldest son of famed director Hayao Miyazaki, will be released next July, according to its distributor, Toho Co.

The movie, the first production directed by 38-year-old Goro Miyazaki, is based on the "Earthsea" series of fantasy novels by American writer Ursula Le Guin.

The movie, on which production has already begun, will be about the journey of wizard Ged and prince Arren, taken primarily from the third and fourth books of the six-volume series published since 1968.

Initially Le Guin asked Hayao Miyazaki to direct the movie, but he was working on "Howl's Moving Castle," according to Toho. His son took on the job instead.
