Lee Hui A, a South Korean pianist with two fingers on each hand due to a congenital birth defect, will perform in Japan for the first time this month, concert organizers said Monday.
Lee, 20, a student in the multimedia music department at the Korea National College of Rehabilitation and Welfare, will be playing pieces including Frederic Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu and Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 on Dec. 22 and 24 at concert halls in Tokyo.
Lee was born with only four fingers and legs to her knees. She has been practicing piano since the age of 5 and continues to train for nearly 10 hours every day. She held her first concert in 1997 in South Korea and performed during the 2000 Sydney Paralympics.
Lee will return to Seoul on Dec. 23 for the day to perform at the Blue House presidential office at the invitation of President Roh Moo Hyun, the organizers said.
