Sino-Japanese ties may be at their lowest point since the two countries normalized diplomatic relations in 1972, but a Japan boom is still rocking the Chinese publishing world.
Novels penned by Haruki Murakami are probably the most popular in China, with 31 of his books translated into Chinese, including "Noruwei no Mori" ("Norwegian Wood") and "Kafka no Umibe" ("Kafka on the Shore"), and about 3.5 million copies of his other works are being published, said Lin Shaohua, a professor at Hai Yang University.
Lin has translated many of Murakami's books. The professor said the novelist's stories are among the best-selling books published in China and are holding their own with Chinese works.
