A Czech college student who disappeared after falling on Mount Fuji earlier this week was found dead Wednesday, police said.

Tomas Krivan, 25, had been missing since Monday, when he tripped and tumbled out of sight while walking down from the 3,776-meter mountain's snowcapped summit.

His traveling companion alerted police.

Police found Krivan's body Wednesday morning at an elevation of about 2,400 meters, according to a Gotenba police official who declined to be named in line with policy.

Mount Fuji, a graceful conical volcano, is popular with novice mountain climbers.
