The political arm of a scandal-hit association of liquor retailers made at least 210 million yen in political donations in the five years to 2004, it was learned Saturday.
The All Japan Liquor Merchants Co-operative Association has made headlines after it was discovered that hundreds of millions of yen that had been pooled for members' pension payments had disappeared.
Hideo Seki, a 49-year-old former secretary general of the cooperative association, was arrested last week on suspicion of embezzling about 16.5 million yen from the union's pension fund.
