The government approved a policy Friday to speed up measures to complete the U.S. military realignment in Japan, including budgetary matters, Cabinet members said.
The policy, endorsed at a Cabinet meeting, calls for consideration of "necessary measures from a comprehensive standpoint" for "precisely and promptly implementing" the realignment plans to be finalized by the Japanese and U.S. governments by next March.
The two nations agreed in Washington on Oct. 29 on an interim report calling for greater military cooperation, including steps to relocate bases and operations involving the U.S. military and the Self-Defense Forces.
