About 1,000 junior high school students will be tested in November on their ability to speak English as part of the government's efforts to ascertain the situation of English education in Japan.
According to the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry, the test will be centered on pronouncing words, repeating sentences that are listened to, answering questions and discussing a given topic.
The test will be conducted at 33 randomly selected junior high schools nationwide, ministry officials said.
