The key gauge of consumer prices in Tokyo fell 0.3 percent in October from a year earlier, marking a 73rd consecutive monthly decline, the government said Friday.
The data underline the fact that deflation continues to dog the economy.
The consumer price index for Tokyo's 23 wards, excluding volatile perishable food prices, stood at 97.2 against the 2000 base of 100, the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry said in a preliminary report.
