Jun Negami, renowned actor and husband of singer Peggy Hayama, died of a stroke Monday afternoon at a hospital in Tokyo, his family said Tuesday. He was 82.
Born as the first son of violinist Otto Mori, Negami joined movie production company Daiei in 1947 and starred in "Haha San-nin" ("Three Mothers") in 1949. His popularity grew after he starred in other works, including "Inazuma" ("Lightning"), "Kawa no Aru Shitamachi no Hanashi" ("A Story of a Town with a River") and "Sasameyuki" ("Thin Snow").
He married Hayama in 1965 and was actively involved in TV productions after leaving Daiei. He starred in dramas including "Shiroi Kyoto" ("White Tower") and "Kaettekita Ultraman" ("Ultraman Returns").
In the past few years, Negami had been receiving treatment at home for a stroke caused by complications associated with diabetes.
