Livedoor Co. has begun selling a tonic drink named after its president, Takafumi Horie, via its online shopping site and at AM/PM Japan Co. convenience stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
The Horienergy drink comes in a 30-ml bottle and costs 380 yen. The company said it can soothe fatigue and prevent hangovers.
The beverage contains ingredients such as turmeric and essence of the pueraria lobata ohwi flower, which the company says have soothing and other positive effects.
Horie, a health-drink lover who drinks various products, proposed that his staff develop a drink containing all sorts of nutrients, so anyone can recharge with a single gulp.
The company jointly developed the product with Toyo Shinyaku Co., a Fukuoka-based medicine and health-related products maker.
Horie has often been in the news.
Earlier this year, he surprised the public by announcing that Livedoor had become Nippon Broadcasting System Inc.'s largest shareholder, confronting Fuji Television Network Inc. in a battle for control of the radio broadcaster for two months before the two sides reached a settlement.
