The Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea amusement parks had a total of 11.66 million visits in the six months through September, down 3.1 percent from a year earlier, amid the just-ended Aichi World Expo, according to operator Oriental Land Co.
The figure, released Monday, showed the first contraction in two years on the basis of the first six months of its business year to March 31.
Attendance at the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi Prefecture exceeded organizers' expectations, to the point of outweighing Oriental Land's efforts to attract visitors to DisneySea by introducing new attractions and holding various events, the company said.
The expo ended Sept. 25. The cumulative attendance figure for the six months reached 22,049,544 visits, far above the targeted 15 million, its organizers said.
