More people oppose an environmental tax to curb global warming than support it, according to a recent government survey.
The Cabinet Office poll found that 32.4 percent of respondents are against such a tax, compared with 24.8 percent who said they are in favor. The biggest group was made of those who have yet to form an opinion, at 35.5 percent.
Asked why they are against the tax, 57.5 percent of those opposed said it would be a heavy burden on their household budget, and 43.3 percent said the government might waste the money. Respondents were allowed multiple answers.
